Where do your ideas come from?
Everything I write is inspired by a real incident. I never have to look for ideas, they stick themselves under my nose!

How important is imagination?
Vital. Stories pivot on the imagination - the writer's imagination and the reader's imagination. That's one of the great mysteries about books. Sometimes a reader will point out a part they've loved in one of your books and you'll be quite surprised. And then of course they'll have skipped the bit you spent days getting right!
